Updated August 6
An air quality advisory remains in effect for the Metro Vancouver region. The North Shore's Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is currently 5 (Medium Risk) due to wildfire smoke.
Smoke can affect everyone, but the greatest health risks are for:
- older adults
- infants and young children
- pregnant people
- people with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other chronic health conditions
- those who work or exercise outdoors
Protect yourself by:
- limiting prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities
- staying indoors with windows and doors closed if indoor temperatures are comfortable
- wearing a well-fitted N95 respirator if you must spend extended time outdoors in smoky conditions
- staying hydrated and watching for symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, or severe irritation of the eyes or throat
- checking in on family, friends, and neighbours who may be more vulnerable

If you experience severe difficulty breathing, chest pain, or other serious symptoms, seek medical attention immediately or call 911.
